3.7.09

Arrived late last night on the farry from main Island to Westmannaeyr. The ride itself was rather painful, last 3 hours out of a 35 hour trip. It turned out to be worth it, when we pulled into harbour at 10.30 pm, full daylight!! The beauty of the cliffs was undescribable!
Great fun with family lasting until 4am. Finally a good sleep. Had 4 hours in 72 hours before that. They say time waits for nobody, in Iceland it does. You feel like sleeping in? So does everybody else and nothing opens up until noon.
After a good cup off coffee I headed out for a hike with Snorri, the wonder mutt. Stocked up on a few drinks. Mountain Dew tastes much better over here. Off to explore Ma nature.
The soil is black, we are on a lava Island that a volcano burbed out of the ocean. It is thickly covered iwth moss and grass. Little white and purple flowers and biggers chunks of lave sticking out. Warm enough for tshirt. Snorri frolicking and rolling in the moss, it takes every piece of self control not to join him!Rolling fog coming in, looks like something out of Lord of the Rings.
Icelanders believe in elves and gnomes living in the rocks. Almost wouldn't spurprise me, this landscape is sickly alive.
Went through the hills, down to the harbour with puffins scattered in the cliffs. To down town that was buzzing with lazy afternoon activities. One street is locked off with bbq and band playing. They are celebrating the day that the volcano stopped erupting last time 35 years ago.
People curiously looking at me and Snorri, I most likely have a big sign on my forhead labeling me tourist!
Got lost. Spend 1 1/2 hours trying to find Dverghammer. How tough can it be to find a little dude with a hammer? Was very happy to finally find the house with a big piano playing puffin painted on the side of the wall!
